Have a question about skip hire?
You’ll likely find the answer here. We’ve compiled a list of our most frequently asked questions to help you quickly understand the process, from what you can and can’t put in a skip to how to arrange a permit.
We aim to make our services as clear and straightforward as possible, so if your question isn’t answered here, please don’t hesitate to give us a call.
What can I put in my skip?
You can use our skips for a wide range of general waste, including household rubbish, furniture, wood, metal, and garden waste. However, for legal and safety reasons, there are some items we cannot accept.
Mattresses, pops waste and plasterboard require separate collections. If you have these our team can arrange collection!
What can’t I put in my skip?
Hazardous or specialist waste is strictly prohibited. This includes but is not limited to:
- Asbestos
- Fridges, freezers, or air-conditioning units
- TVs and computer monitors
- Batteries
- Tyres
- Paint, solvents, and gas cylinders
- Medical waste
How to save money on a skip?
To save money on skips you can segregate the waste such as rubble only & timber only skips. Please contact us in advance to explore a reduction in rates.
Do I need a permit?
You will need a skip permit from your local council if the skip needs to be placed on public land, such as a road or pavement. If the skip is going on private property, like your driveway or garden, a permit is not required. We can arrange the permit for you, and the cost will be added to your quote.
How full can I fill the skip?
By law, you must not fill the skip past the top of its sides. The waste should be a level load and not be overflowing. Overfilled skips are unsafe to transport and may be refused for collection, resulting in a wasted journey charge.
How long can I keep the skip?
Our standard hire period is 14 days, which is usually enough for most domestic and small commercial projects. However longer periods can usually be arranged with prior notice.
What if I only have a few items?
If you only have a few items why not try our man in a van service.
